How to Cleanse Your Crystals

It’s important to cleanse our crystals before wearing or working with them because crystals store energy. Emotions affect the auric field of the physical body, and because crystals can easily pick up vibration and frequency, they can also attract discordant, disharmonious vibrations and frequencies, even from passing strangers. If we don’t cleanse them before using, it might interfere with your energies. That is why I cleanse all jewellery and crystals before sending them out to you. But you would want to cleanse them every so often or after each use for your crystal to work its best for you.

There are no hard and fast rules on which tools or methods you should use - experiment around and listen to your feelings to see what works best for you!

1. Running water

Cleansing your crystals in natural streams is the best, but if natural water sources are not readily accessible, cleanse your crystals under a running tap is also another great alternative. Pat dry when complete.

Approximate duration: 30 - 60s
Use this for: hard stones such as quartz
Don't use this for: stones that are brittle or soft, such as selenite, kyanite and fluorite. Your sterling silver jewellery.

2. Salt

You would want to place your crystals in a glass or ceramic bowl or jar and bury them in sea salt or kosher salt. The salt will absorb all the negative energies. Toss out the salt after process is complete.

Approximate duration: a few hours, overnight.
Use this for: any crystals
Don't use this for: Your jewellery.

3. Salt & Apple Cider Vinegar Solution

Soak crystals in salt, apple cider vinegar, and distilled water for 10 minutes or longer. This mixture can be made in advance and used as needed. Place crystals carefully in a glass bowl and pour solution over them until they are immersed, leaving them for 10 minutes or more. Throw out mixture after use. Then rinse throughly with distilled water. The contact of salt purifies all human emotions immediately from the crystals.

Formula for solution:

1 cup sea salt or kosher salt
1 cup pure apple cider vinegar (not flavoured)
1 gallon distilled water

Approximate duration: 10 mins
Use this for: hard stones such as quartz
Don't use this for: stones that are brittle or soft, such as selenite, kyanite and fluorite. Your jewellery.

3. Sage or Palo Santo

Sage and Palo Santo are a sacred plant with a multitude of healing properties. Palo Santo, known as a 'holy wood', is able to be used once these trees have naturally fallen in the rainforest and lie dead for four to ten years before they are harvested.

Approximate duration: 30s for each crystal
Use this for: all crystals and jewellery

4. Sound

You would want to use a singing bowl, a bell or tuning fork for this method. Its high frequency will dissipate all low energies attached to your crystal. Sound healing allows a single pitch or tone to wash over an area, bringing it the same vibration as the tone.

Approximate duration: 5 mins
Use this for: all crystals and jewellery
