You are not meant to fit in, you are meant to shine your light so others can see their own light. The Universe has chosen you to be different and unique. Many of you have an innate wanting to help others, it is who you are. But you end up feeling resentful and/or depressed because you are not properly protecting your energy.
By learning the tools of how you can effectively protect yourself, you are at a better position to heal yourself and others from a balanced and grounded approach.
1. Visualisation & Prayer
As you pray, visualise in your mind’s eye that you are surrounded by a bubble of white or golden light. This bubble of white or golden light encompasses your entire being and extends at least a meter all around. Visualisation is a great tool when you feel overwhelmed in public spaces and/or in large crowds.
3. Smudging
Smudging is the common name given to the indigenous American tradition known as the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing. This is a powerful spiritual cleansing technique which calls upon the spirits of various sacred plants to drive away negative energy and to restore balance to an individual, a group, a space, or all three. This tradition has been a part of the spirituality of indigenous Americans for thousands of years, and now this cleansing ritual is available to anyone who is willing to give it a try. The ritual is very simple and very empowering, and you don't need a lot of expensive equipment to start doing it in your own home.
Perhaps you are wondering why smudging is effective? It is because it allows you to effect the world of subtle spiritual energies using the spirits of various powerful, healing plants. If you have ever worked with yoga or meditation, you will understand that your body, and indeed, the spaces that you occupy, vibrate with invisible energy currents that can be strongly effected by outside forces, both physical and spiritual.
Smudging allows you to wash away all the emotional and spiritual negativity that gathers in your body and your space over time. It's a little bit like taking a spiritual shower! The effects of smudging can be very effective, often banishing stress almost instantly and providing energy and peace. Smudging can also help your body and space to adjust to the healing rhythms of the seasonal cycle. More than anything, though, smudging can turn your space, and your body, into a peaceful, beautiful temple in which you can rejuvenate yourself and fine happiness.

Palo Santo and Sage are great smudging tools to clear out old & unwanted energy in your energetic field. Start by setting your intention, then direct the smoke all around your body from the crown of your head, under your arms, to the base of your feet. Thank the Universe and plant for protection.
4. Crystals
Crystals can transmit, transmute and store energy. Carrying, meditating or simply holding them in your hands can help you feel emotionally balanced and centred. Before working with crystals, remember to cleanse them and set your intentions. Start by holding the crystal in your left hand to set your intentions. Speak out loud or in your heart what you wish for the crystal to help you with. Only set intentions that are for the highest good of everyone involved.
Crystals that are great for transmuting negative energies are Black tourmaline, Hematite, Clear Quartz, Fluorite, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Labradorite.

5. Cord cutting
Whether you believe it or not, we are all energetically connected. People, places, things hold energy, and can attach itself to your energetic field, even if it was a stranger that you causally encountered.
To cut energetic cords with someone, close your eyes and visualise you are surrounded by a bubble of white light. To realise old energies, take in deep breathes from your nose, and hold it at the top for 2-3 seconds, then slowly exhale through your mouth. You may repeat this until you feel ready. Visualise red strings extending out from your heart center to the person you’d like to cut cords with, cords are attached to each other’s hearts. Thank the person for the lessons that they have taught you. Don’t worry, connections can be reconnected again if you so choose.
In the next step, imagine a huge sharp sword or scissors, cutting the cords off in one swift motion. The cords are now cut, and recoiled back into your heart center. Sit in this bubble of white light for a few more deep breathes. When you are ready, open your eyes. You may need to practice this process a few more times if you feel the attachment is still present.
6. Set boundaries
Empaths have a hard time saying no to others. You have a deep desire to want to heal others. Be it a listening ear, counselling or going out of your way to put others' needs before yours (even to your own detriment), can leave you feeling drained and emotionally imbalanced.
You have a hard time speaking up, because you hate to rock the boat. Speaking your truth is not only freeing, it sets the standard for how you would like to be treated. Distancing yourself or limiting time spent with others is not selfish. Setting boundaries is a healthy part of self-love. Putting yourself first puts you in a better position to help others from a more balanced approach. As the saying goes, "You can’t pour from an empty cup”.
To set energetic boundary with others. Say this mantra:
“I say this with love and respect. I do not allow anyone to take this energy, this energy is mine and mine alone. But I can use this energy to help others find their inner light."
